Open LibGuides in another browser window to work through this tutorial side by side.
First, login to LibGuides and either create a guide or edit an existing one. Then, add a box to Column 1 on your guide page.

Add content to a box:
To add content such as text, links and databases to your guide, select the Add/ Reorder dropdown on an existing box.
From the Add/ Reorder dropdown menu, you have options for adding text, databases, links, media, books from the catalog, and more.
To add text, select add Rich Text/HTML from the Add/ Reorder dropdown menu.
This will open up a WYSIWYG text editor with an option to switch to an HTML editor. Type and format your text using the style editor. Select what position you'd like this content to appear within the box.
Then Save and Close to confirm your changes.
If you'd like to add a database link to your page, remember to use the LibGuides Add Database option instead of hyperlinking to the database.
To add a database, select Database from the Add/ Reorder box dropdown.
In the Add Database popup, simply type in the database (e.g., Ebsco, JSTOR) you would like to link to, select it from the list, and then Save.
Add the link name, link URL, the window target, and select Save.
You can reorder elements such as text and database links by selecting Reorder Content from the Add/ Reorder dropdown.
Simply, drag and drop the elements in the order you prefer and then select Save Order.
To add an Ask a Librarian box to your page, you can map to an Ask a Librarian widget already created by your friendly web staff.
Mapping or reusing, in Libguides talk, means that you make a copy of a box/ widget that mirrors the original. However, mapping differs from copying, since the mapped version will continue to maintain a relationship to the original. Therefore, the mapped box will not be edit-able.
We recommend mapping to or reusing boxes/ widgets such as Ask a Librarian, scoUT, Google Scholar, etc., as this will help maintain consistency across our guides.
To add an Ask a Librarian box, first select Add Box- Column 2 on the far right side of the page.
Then, select the Reuse an Existing Box tab.
In the Guide dropdown, select "0 Widget Collection by Brandon Cornell" under the heading All Guides.
In the Box Dropdown, select Ask a Librarian under the heading General.
Select position, depending on where you would like the Ask a Librarian box to appear on the far right column.
Then, Save to confirm your Ask a Librarian box.
Your new box will appear on your guides page. Refresh the page, if you do not see it appear. (Note: refreshing the page will restart this tutorial)
There will be a note on the box that says "[edit mode is disabled for mapped boxes]". This message is only visible in your admin/ editor view - and is not visible to the public.
